Client exposed functions used to use audit-argument-checks to guarantee valid inputs. This package was removed in :3d6250b89 because I couldn't get TAPi18n-db to work when it was enabled.

I feel slightly uncomfortable in not having that package available, so effort should be put toward reintroducing it.
